CLOUD CONTROL

Cloud Control is a mixed media site-specific sculptural installation.  As a companion piece to the photo-based work Cloud Cover, the installation uses the cloud as metaphor to address a growing anxiety over humanity’s ability to both protect and control the natural world.

The installation consists of two main elements.  In the center of the space hangs a black constructed cloud with attached black thread lines that originate from the shapely spools of black thread below. These individually wrapped spools sit on highly reflective circular discs.  The counterpoint to this constructed and highly controlled central piece is the shadowy cityscape that appears on the surrounding walls. Tethered to looming shadowy clouds this phantom urban landscape is shaped by the placement of wall-mounted lighting directed at the central construction.
