TELL ME HER NAME

Tell Me Her Name is a two part photographic installation using found photographic portraiture to create a silhouetted likeness of women in art history. A suite of digitally produced portrait silhouettes features female artists working mainly in the late 19th to mid 20th century. They were often assistants to a renown male artist or considered the muse rather than an accomplished artist in their own right. Many did not receive in their lifetime the attention received by their male counterparts, highlighting the gender imbalance. Often upending all convention both in their life and their work their stories are being rediscovered.

Tell Me Her Name is a suite of 48 profiles presented in variable configurations. Each profile and the surrounding background provide insight into the artwork of these artists and the era in which they worked. For names and dates click here.

In Conversation, the second part, features large scale prints of selected images placed face to face to stimulate the viewer’s imagination as to the conversation these artists might have.

Tell Me Her Name is an ongoing project.
