WOODLAND TAPESTRIES
Woodland Tapestries #3, 2026
Photo-based pigment print on stretched canvas, thread
Woodland Tapestries is a mixed media work composed of six pigment prints on canvas. To these canvas prints she has physically embedded the body silhouette through stitching, marking and mending.
Living on the edge of one of Toronto’s great ravines, woodlands are an integral part of Kaufman’s life. Her work draws on this connection. Based on a growing concern for the climate crisis and the role humans play woodlands and forests become the stage for a bodily presence. In Woodland Tapestries she references techniques from art history using the human silhouette and a warp/weft motif to explore an interactive relationship between the human and natural world.
